Cumbria to get more rail services
11/12/2008
RAIL passengers in Cumbria will soon benefit from extra services to and from Manchester.
First TransPennine Express has increased the number of services as part of a timetable change which will come into effect on the 14th December.
As a result of the improvements Windermere will gain an extra three services to Preston and an extra two to Manchester Airport. Barrow will still have ten services from Manchester and Manchester Airport but will see improved connections to travel to Scotland.
There will be a two hourly through service between Preston and Windermere in each direction and some journey times will be reduced.
Vernon Barker, managing director of First TransPennine Express, said: "The changes for Cumbria have created improved journey times, better connections and in some instances more direct services between Barrow/Windermere and Manchester. We hope that this will make a difference to the majority of passengers who are increasingly using rail to travel."
Passengers are advised to check journey details prior to travelling. For information on train times you can visit www.tpexpress.co.uk or telephone National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
