An intrepid team of First TransPennine Express (FTPE) employees from across the UK, donned their walking boots and reached heady heights at the weekend when they scaled the UK's three highest peaks in a bid to raise money for the Railway Children Charity - a national charity that fight for children living on the street.

Laura Price, Access & Contracts Manager from Stalybridge joined Nick Donovan, Andy Dyson, Luke Gardner, Tommy Gore, Anna-Jane Hunter and Jonathan Lindley who all swapped their office attire for climbing crampons for the fundraising challenge, which saw them successfully ascend Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowden in just 36-hours.

To support the climbers, First TransPennine Express donated 10p from all hot drink sales during May, raising an additional £3,000 for the climbers. Furthermore they also donated the fuel used to transport the walkers, which amounted to £7,000 - a direct contribution from FTPE. Along the way the group raised plenty of money for the charity, with their combined fundraising total reaching £20,000.

On completing the challenge, Laura Price said: "It was so nice to see everyone working together and encouraging each other, which made for an enjoyable, sociable and memorable weekend. Even through the pain and exhaustion, we thoroughly enjoyed completing the challenge."

Rob Capener, Head of Marketing and Communications at Railway Children said: "This was such an enduring challenge, we couldn't be more grateful to the staff at First TransPennine Express for undertaking such a gruelling feat. It's only through support such as this that we are able to help more than 30,000 children each year who would otherwise be completely alone and vulnerable on the streets of the UK."

Nick Donovan, Managing Director at First TransPennine Express commented: "A big congratulations to the team, the determination in completing this exhausting challenge was overwhelming. The Three Peaks climb provided us with a great opportunity to bring staff from across the UK together, as it required a real team effort, and knowing that the money raised will go to help disadvantaged children, makes it even more worthwhile."
