Manchester speciality Eccles cake is first up for the taste challenge. It's a small round cake made with a flaky pastry and loaded with currants.
Another classic treat from the region is the Bakewell tart - shortcrust pastry, sponge, jam and ground almonds and topped with icing and a cherry.
We went to Sheffield station to ask passengers which they preferred. The cake fight is on!
"I grew up near Eccles so I really should go with that one but the Bakewell tart is delicious so I'll go with that."
"I love Eccles cakes! These ones are really fresh so they're crispy on the outside and squidgy on the inside. Lovely!"
"I don't really know. I like them both actually but I'll go for the Bakewell tart. I'm not sure about the flaky pastry today."
