Culture Vultures

Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul

Is as old as the hills, and you can feel it oozing from the walls when you stand inside. Some of the stained glass is modern, but it doesn't detract from the air of age.

Town Hall

The ornate Victorian town hall in Sheffield is architecturally impressive. Take one of the free guided tours to get access all areas, including the very elegant Lord Mayor's parlour.

Millennium Galleries

Houses many and varied exhibits from Victorian metalwork to contemporary art. The highlight is the John Ruskin Museum in Sheffield, containing craft and artefacts from his own collection.

Graves Art Gallery

Heavyweight names like Cezanne, Gaugin, Miro and Picasso alongside temporary exhibitions, all displayed in recently restored 1930s splendour.

Manor Lodge

Once a stately home, now rather dilapidated; but the room in which the infamous Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for 14 years is still intact.
