Is as old as the hills, and you can feel it oozing from the
walls when you stand inside. Some of the stained glass is modern,
but it doesn't detract from the air of age.
The ornate Victorian town hall in Sheffield is architecturally
impressive. Take one of the free guided tours to get access all
areas, including the very elegant Lord Mayor's parlour.
Houses many and varied exhibits from Victorian metalwork to
contemporary art. The highlight is the John Ruskin Museum in
Sheffield, containing craft and artefacts from his own
collection.
Heavyweight names like Cezanne, Gaugin, Miro and Picasso
alongside temporary exhibitions, all displayed in recently restored
1930s splendour.
Once a stately home, now rather dilapidated; but the room in
which the infamous Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for 14 years
is still intact.
