Why take the train to Ulverston?
This pretty market town is probably best known as the home of the Hoad Monument, a Grade II listed tower. Many people jump on a train to Ulverston so they can take the pleasant walk up Hoad Hill to see the monument, where you're also treated to stunning views of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District.
Ulverston is sometimes referred to as 'Festival Town' thanks to the varied programme of family-friendly events it hosts throughout the year. And did you know that Stan Laurel was born here? Be sure to keep an eye out for the Laurel & Hardy statue situated outside Coronation Hall - and maybe even pay a visit the Laurel & Hardy Museum!
