Connecting Communities
As a rail operator that serves both the North of England and Scotland, it’s vital we offer a service for our customers that provides great links between communities. In December 2021, we were proud to launch a new service between Newcastle and Edinburgh that joins communities in East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. TransPennine Express’ (TPE) new services call at Edinburgh Waverley, Dunbar, Reston (when complete) Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnmouth, Morpeth and Newcastle, with five trains per day (Monday to Sunday) in both directions, with one service per day calling at Cramlington.
The introduction of these new services means that for the first time in decades, communities in Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick and Dunbar now have a direct rail link, providing new journey opportunities for residents between towns in the regions and into Edinburgh and Newcastle.
Our customers and their communities are at the heart of everything we do and as we look to the future, we are delighted to seek out more opportunities to connect even more communities by rail. In May the opening of a new station at Reston will give local people direct rail services for the first time in more than 50 years. We’re incredibly proud that TPE will be the first operator to call at the station when it opens and of our role as a key partner in bringing rail services back to Reston. We look forward to welcoming our new customers on board.
The investment in the development of these new services was thanks to the work of, and collaboration between TPE, Transport for Scotland and Rail North Partnership.
