A better future for our colleagues and customers

Training, development and diversity

As the North grows and transforms, we need to make sure that our colleagues are ready and raring to deliver consistently high quality service and represent the diverse communities we serve.

To help us transform every area of our service and take the North further, we'll be making big investments into the best training and equipment for our colleagues.

Investing in customer service

  • New Customer Service flagship training scheme

  • Tailored customer service training and development to enhance customer experience around our new trains

Bringing the next generation on board

  • Annual apprenticeships and graduate programmes to make sure we have talented young people joining and growing their careers in our business

  • Building partnerships with our community to promote careers in the rail industry and help young people to gain confidence and employability skills

Developing diversity

  • We'll work to ensure our workforce better reflects the communities we serve and that we attract and employ a more diverse workforce

  • Equip colleagues with skills to offer excellent customer service to our diverse customer population

  • Create an annual diversity plan to keep our plans focused and review how we're doing

Driving employee engagement

  • Develop a range of engagement initiatives to achieve 71% employee engagement

  • This includes the creation of 'Your Voice', an annual staff survey where colleagues can feedback on what it's like to work at TransPennine Express

  • Launch a targeted range of absence management initiatives to achieve 4.1% absence target

Investing in wellbeing and development

  • Maintain our Investors in People Gold accreditation, with lots of initiatives aimed at nurturing a healthy, motivated team

  • Work towards becoming an Investors in People Platinum level business

  • Develop our wellbeing programme with a range of new initiatives supported by our wellbeing champions

  • Promote colleague volunteering with organisations like The Prince's Trust, Make the Grade, Factory Youth Zone and The Mustard Tree

  • Introduce a refreshed People and Leadership Strategy which puts the development of our people at its core

And of course, as the North grows and transforms, we'll need more talented, dedicated professionals to join us for an exciting career at TransPennine Express. That's why we'll be working hard to bring in new faces, keep hold of high-calibre colleagues and make sure we better reflect the communities we serve.
