The North and Scotland are packed with beautiful locations and photo-worthy views, from the glorious Lake District to Liverpool’s awesome cityscape. With so many to choose from, you may be struggling to decide on the final destination for your next day out by train. To help you on your way, we’ve chosen some of the best places to kick back and enjoy the view…

The best view of the city

Liverpool Anglican Cathedral is the largest Anglican Cathedral in Britain and the fifth largest in the world. As you’d expect, it’s breathtakingly scenic from the inside and outside, but to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city head straight to the top of the 331ft tower. Admire the pretty Georgian Streets, the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, St George’s Hall and a number of other city landmarks from the top.

The historical view

The remains of Scarborough Castle dominate the streets of the Old Town. Before the castle was built, this natural fortress was favoured by prehistoric settlers before serving as a Roman signal station and Viking haven. Today you can climb to the battlement viewing platforms for dramatic coastline views and enjoy tea in the 18th century Master Gunner’s House whilst taking in the scenery.

The World Record view

Glasgow Science Centre is one of Scotland's top visitor attractions and it’s easy to see why. There’s an IMAX cinema, Planetarium and hundreds of interactive exhibitions that present the concepts of science and technology in unique and inspiring ways. The crowning glory of all of this is the Glasgow Tower, which currently holds the Guinness-World-Record for the tallest fully rotating freestanding structure on earth.

View from the SIX

Last but not least, there's the glorious view from the SIX Restaurant on the top floor of BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. It’s as well known for its dramatic panoramic views of the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside and beyond, as well as its delicious modern British cuisine. For those looking for a quick lunch, post-work catch-up or pre-show dinner, SIX offers a fantastic value lunch and early evening menu.
