Felix the Senior Pest Controller: A look back at my best bits from 2016!

Thursday 22nd December 2016

Welcome friends to what I hope will become a regular series of blogs as the weeks go by. What a year it’s been for me – nearly 100,000 followers all over the world, a book coming out next Spring and a calendar that sold out within a day! Can you believe my Facebook page only had 1,000 likes at the start of the year? Crazy times! It all started when my colleague Andy got me a hi-vis jacket and I was promoted to Senior Pest Controller

A lot of what’s gone on this year has been great fun, but the thing that gives me the most pleasure is the money we’ve raised for a couple of good causes. Who could forget the Fairy Bricks 5K challenge? You were all so kind in pledging your hard earned cash to help me raise over £5,000 for this wonderful charity that supplies Lego packs to children’s’ wards at hospitals all over the country. And I reckon my calendar has now raised over £18,000 for the Samaritans branch in Huddersfield. Well done everybody!

We’re going to keep having fun in 2017 and it’s lovely to see so many people online and actually here at the station who love me and my Facebook page.  But remember friends, I’m an unpredictable cat and an audience with me is never guaranteed – please be understanding if you don’t see me.  You can always admire the new painting of me in the entrance hall, or the Lego model of me which is on display at the ticket office.

We have a lot of exciting plans for 2017. I’m off to spend Christmas with my friend and colleague Jean who works in the ticket office. She has promised me some gourmet cat food, so you can imagine I’m really looking forward to that!

In 2017 we are going to be raising funds for a friend of the station – local young man Callan Rawnsley who suffered a serious neck injury last summer leaving him paralysed. Callan is hoping to start wheelchair rugby soon and needs a customised set of wheels to help him. We’d also like to help Callan’s Mum & Dad carry out some essential alterations to their home to make things easier for all of them. My human helpers have met Callan and his family and were knocked out by their energy and enthusiasm. So please look out for this special appeal early in 2017 and help this little cat make a big difference!

That’s all for now friends. Stay safe!

Felix
