Cracking Christmas Cocktails to Try This Winter

Thursday 24th November 2016
Whether it’s early morning festive fizz, a mulled wine strolling round the markets or an indulgent Baileys watching Christmas telly, a tipple is an inescapable (and enjoyable) part of Christmas.

Bars and restaurants across the North and Scotland are getting into the spirit of the season and creating bespoke drink menus. We’ve rounded up the best of the booze so you won’t have to think twice about where to have those after work drinks or romantic festive evening.

The best part is, nobody needs to be designated driver because we’ll get you home safely by train. Remember to drink responsibly though!

3. Jake’s Bar, Leeds

Tucked away on Call Lane in Leeds, Jake’s Bar is a hipster cocktail haven with cosy, vintage decor. The bar uses a copper pot still to distil and blend their own alcohol in-house, so you know your cocktail will be extra special.

Turn to the ‘By Candlelight’ page of the menu and order a White Alexander – homemade white chocolate crème brule cream, mixed with Cognac and ginger liqueur with a touch of white chocolate liqueur: a perfect festive treat! If that doesn’t appeal, don’t worry - their menu is packed with classic cocktail favourites.

4. Berry and Rye, Liverpool

Berry and Rye serve some of the best festive cocktails in Liverpool – if you can find them! Hidden behind what looks like a closed shop front, you need to walk through the blacked out door and through the velvet curtains to discover a dedicated craft cocktail room.

Finding inspiration from Pre-Prohibition era-drinks, the bar experiments with their cocktails, serving everything from vodka to gin and everything in between. Start with a well-made, classic Old Fashioned and then try brandy favourite The Merchant. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask the bartender for recommendations – you won’t regret it.

To really ramp up the festive celebrations, order a The Champagne’s on Ice – Moet champagne and fruit infusions. Juniper is a must-try destination when it comes to festive drinks this winter.
