Visit Leeds this Christmas

Guest blog from Visit Leeds

From the second you walk out of Leeds train station, into the main City Square and catch sight of the magnificent Christmas tree, you’ll see that Leeds does Christmas properly.

Walk up towards Millennium Square and you’ll discover one of the UK’s favourite German markets. The hugely popular annual Christkindelmarkt is open right up until Christmas Eve.

Leeds German Christmas Market

The market features a mix of more than 40 traditionally decorated wooden chalet stalls selling seasonal gifts, toys, decorations and the best in authentic German food and drink – all in one place! Also returning this year for an extended run is the special Santa’s Breakfast experience for children and families.

The Return of Thor
THOR'S Tipi, Leeds

The exciting return of Thor’s Tipi on Victoria Gardens, will begin on November 17. With two linked canvas tipis forming a bar festooned with lighting and decked out with wooden tables and benches, cosy furs and an open fire pit, the attraction will also include local beer from Leeds Brewery and a Viking-inspired menu from The Mussel Pot.

Christmas at Leeds Corn Exchange

And where else could you do all your Christmas shopping within a compact and walkable city. Within minutes of the station, you’ll find yourself in Trinity Leeds with all the shops you’d care to imagine and from the main shopping street of Briggate, wander through magnificent Victorian arcades towards Leeds’ newest retail addition Victoria Leeds. This is where you’ll find John Lewis, COS and the most amazing restaurants and cocktail bars Issho and East 59th.

See Something Special
Abigail Prudames and Joseph Taylor in The Little Mermaid

To top off your Christmas experience in Leeds, why not take in a show. The enchanting and magical production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is on at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Northern Ballet perform the unforgettable Little Mermaid and of course Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a traditional panto. The Carriageworks’ Jack and the Beanstalk is popular with families and if you’re up for a dance shake your booty at the ‘rock and roll’ panto of Aladdin at City Varieties.
