New secure cycle parking facilities have been introduced at Selby train station, in a partnership between TransPennine Express and Selby District Council.
The new facility provides an additional 144 cycle spaces at the station which, when the previous facilities are included, enables over 200 bikes to be parked at the station every day. The racks have been positioned by the taxi office at Selby station.
The new cycle racks are designed to encourage additional customers of train services to cycle to the station rather than drive, helping to reduce road congestion in the Selby area.
Charlie French, Transport Integration Manager for TransPennine Express, said: “We are delighted to have been able to enhance and expand the cycle parking facility at Selby in partnership with Selby District Council.
"This partnership has delivered infrastructure that enables customers to choose to cycle to the station rather than drive, knowing they can leave their bike parked securely and protected from the weather.”
Cllr Mark Crane, Leader of Selby District Council, said: “It’s great to see new facilities like these being expanded at Selby station to make it easier to travel. Selby’s really well connected along the Transpennine route, and with services to York and other parts of west and south Yorkshire too. I’d like to continue to see new investment at the station, to encourage people to come into Selby but also to support those travelling elsewhere too.”
We are delivering an investment of £500million over the next two years in additional services, more seats and longer trains.
