Three graduates began their careers in the transport industry this week as they joined FirstGroup’s graduate training programme with TransPennine Express (TPE).
The graduates, recruited from all over the UK, have already begun a comprehensive workplace training programme that will see them gain experience in multiple locations across the transport operator’s rail and bus operations.
The induction programme for the new recruits began at the TPE Learning and Development centre at Huddersfield railway station, after which they will join their respective business areas in finance, engineering, or operations management.
In anticipation of his new role, Joe Munro, Rail Operations Graduate for TransPennine Express from Manchester who studied in Hull said: “I’m most looking forward to getting hands-on within the business to realise the vision of taking the North further. My initial placement will be within the Human Resources department so I can witness first-hand how colleagues and different business functions help to drive the company forward.”
Thomas Holt, Rail Operations Graduate for TransPennine Express from Solihull commented: “In my role, I will be working on projects within the Customer Experience team for TransPennine Express. I am looking forward to travelling across the network and meeting new people, and also being involved in the implementation of further improvements for rail customers.”
Philip Sears, Rail Operations Graduate for TransPennine Express from High Wycome said: ““As someone with a deep interest in railways, I am very fortunate to have a place on FirstGroup’s graduate scheme. I am spending my first few months in Performance and Control at TransPennine Express, as part of which I am particularly looking forward to experiencing real-time responses to incidents, and the interaction between the decisions made by Control, the actions of staff on the ground, and the subsequent analysis and recommendations of the Performance team. Indeed, it is the wide variety of different experiences on offer, as well as the opportunity to work towards making a real difference to customers in such an important industry, which make First’s graduate scheme so attractive.”
