Passengers rate First TransPennine Express as a value for money operator

Passengers using First TransPennine Express (FTPE) have scored it the joint best long distance franchise operator in the recent National Passenger Survey (Autumn 09) with a satisfaction score of 89 per cent.

The independent survey, which gathers the opinion of more than 25,000 rail users, also showed it to be a value for money operator with two thirds of passengers in the North saying they are happy with the value of their ticket when travelling with FTPE.

The train company improved by 10 per cent in the value for money category and achieved 63 per cent, which is 18 points higher than the national average of 45 per cent.

Edith Rodgers, Customer Services Director for First TransPennine Express, said: "We are delighted with the response from passengers and have been working hard to offer low fares, special offers and on-line ticket promotions to attract new passengers.

"We have seen an improvement in 27 of the 31 scores overall which is a testament to the dedication of our staff who continuously strive to provide the highest standards of customer service. We will continue to work hard and provide the best service possible for our passengers."

Last year FTPE carried 22 million passengers and saw growth in leisure travel, the numbers of passengers travelling to Manchester Airport and people making longer journeys, with 33 million more miles travelled this year compared to the twelve months before.

The success has been linked to the introduction of services between Manchester Airport - Glasgow and Edinburgh and an increase in the number of value for money advance purchase fares.
