Use the bus to get the train

28 May 2012

A local train operator is offering its customers connecting bus travel to and from railway stations across the north of England.

First TransPennine Express (FTPE) is providing integrated travel for just £1.50 a day at selected stations thanks to a new online offer for PLUSBUS tickets.

PLUSBUS is a value for money travelcard that is bought in conjunction with rail tickets and gives unlimited bus and tram travel around local urban areas.  It's a very popular integrated ticketing initiative that saves passengers' both time and money.

The PLUSBUS day tickets are available at a reduced rate throughout June and July and can be purchased at an add-on when purchasing rail tickets.

The £1.50 day ticket represents up to a 50 per cent reduction on normal prices and customers can take advantage of connected travel across the whole of Britain with 286 participating towns and cities.

As well as being cheap and convenient, PLUSBUS helps meet the Government's target of reducing CO2 emissions by cutting car use. Bus and train travel have the lowest CO2 emissions of any form of powered transport. Car travel accounts for 58 per cent of Britain's CO2 emissions (whereas buses account for just 2.8 per cent of these emissions).

A million PLUSBUS tickets were sold last year, meaning hundreds of thousands of people are already using the bus to travel to and from the railway station (instead of their car). PLUSBUS tickets sales have increased by 25 per cent in the last year.

Leo Goodwin, FTPE's Commercial Director said,

"PLUSBUS already offers our customers a convenient and cheap way of getting to and from our stations. We want to encourage more passengers to try it. So during June and July we're offering PLUSBUS tickets for just £1.50 a day when bought online from

"Customers are looking for great value travel options and we hope this offer will encourage passengers to use the bus when travelling to and from the railway station."

Britain's six leading bus companies (Arriva, First, Go-Ahead, National Express, Stagecoach and Veolia Transdev) and nearly 200 independent and council-owned bus operators across the country will be accepting PLUSBUS tickets for travel on their services in June & July.

To take advantage of the special £1.50 offer tickets must be bought online and before 30th July for travel during June or July 2012.
