Local band en route to Leeds Festival with FTPE
A local train company has teamed up with Leeds Festival 2012 as an official travel sponsor, and are supporting a Yorkshire band who are on track to make their debut at the summer's hottest music event.
To celebrate the launch of their combined train and bus tickets to the festival, First TransPennine Express (FTPE) invited upcoming Leeds band, Backyards, to provide acoustic entertainment to FTPE passengers on a recent train between Huddersfield and Leeds.
Performing songs off their EP 'If You're Scared', Backyards have been shortlisted to take part in the Futuresound competition, which takes place throughout June and July at the Cockpit in Leeds. They will go up against 55 local bands for a chance to play on the Radio 1/NME stage at Leeds Festival in front of thousands of diehard music fans.
Taking place between the 24th and 26th August, Leeds Festival will see tens of thousands of people descend on the city's Bramham Park for three days of live music across seven stages, with headline acts including Foo Fighters, Bombay Bicycle Club and Kasabian.
Bryan, guitar and vocals for Backyard said, "Not many bands can say that they've played a gig on a train, so when First TransPennine Express approached us to provide on-board entertainment, we jumped at the chance. Most of us have attended Leeds Festival, so to win a chance to perform there through the Futuresound competition would be surreal." FTPE is offering festival goers special fares starting from £14.00 or £12.15 return* when booked with a young persons rail card, including onward bus connections to the festival.
Operating eight trains an hour to Leeds and six to York, festival goers will have unrivalled choice and will experience quicker journeys - their festival experience will begin the moment they step on the train with onward bus connections to the festival from Leeds and York.
Tickets must be purchased before 17th August and are available at www.tpexpress.co.uk and at select stations.
FTPE Marketing Manager Victoria Tomlinson said: "We're extremely proud to be involved with Leeds Festival 2012 and are equally delighted to be welcoming one of the region's brightest acts for the future on board an FTPE train to help celebrate the occasion."
The Futuresound shortlist of 56 bands will be competing for their place at Leeds Festival throughout June and July, with Backyard performing at the Cockpit on 9th July.
