Railway staff take on Three Peaks by Rail Challenge for children’s charity

22 Jun 2016

Top team is aiming to raise more than £17,500 for street children charity

Train drivers, conductors and managers from TransPennine Express (TPE) will be taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge between 23-25 June to raise money for the Railway Children Charity.

The group will join 40 other teams in climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden in just over 36 hours and will be travelling between the mountains on a special charter train service, supplied by companies across the rail industry.

Collectively, the TPE team has already raised an impressive £17,000 through a mixture of fundraising activities and sponsorship, collections and the running of two special charity charter trains.

All funds raised will directly help vulnerable children living homeless and abandoned on the streets and the money will enable the charity to provide shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, education and counselling.

TPE Duty Control Manager, Tim Brawn, and one of the event organisers said: "The team here has worked really hard to fundraise over the last year and have already raised £17,000 thanks to the support of the wider company. The Railway Children Charity is an excellent cause and it’s brilliant that all the funds raised will go to help the most vulnerable in society."

Manchester Airport conductor Dale Jarvis, who originally joined the company as an apprentice will be taking part in the event. He said: "This is my first Three Peaks by Rail challenge and I’ve been doing lots of training to prepare myself for the climbs ahead. As a conductor, I’m used to being on my feet all day although I’m sure this will be a little more difficult! "

Event manager for the Railway Children Charity, Katie Mason, said: “We are delighted TPE is taking on the challenge for Railway Children. They have already raised so much for the charity and their hard work will help to ensure we can continue our work supporting some of the most vulnerable children in society.”
