More trains from Stalybridge straight to the UK City of Culture and beyond...

06 Jan 2017

From 8th January 2017, more TransPennine Express (TPE) services will call at Stalybridge station on Sundays giving people the chance to take a day trip to Hull, City of Culture 2017 along with other destinations across the North.

Most trains between Manchester and Hull will now stop at Stalybridge, which is the perfect excuse to check out an exciting show or exhibition in the UK City of Culture 2017.

The new stops will also create more options when it comes to planning a Sunday shopping trip in Leeds or a day out at one of Manchester’s great museums.

The new stops have been implemented all thanks to a suggestion from Rob Dixon, a member of the local customer service team.

Customer Service colleague Rob Dixon said: “I’ve worked at the station for some time now and know that people are keen to get out and about on a Sunday. I was able to put forward my suggestion to a member of the timetabling team who was able to successfully implement this to mark the start of the New Year and it coincides with Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

“I’m chuffed to pieces that this change is now being made and know that local customers, many of which I see every day will feel exactly the same way.”

Adam Fairclough, Head of Customer Experience Change for TransPennine Express said: “We are thrilled that we have been able to introduce these extra Sunday services for customers in and around the Stalybridge area and I am particularly pleased that this suggestion came from a member of the local Stalybridge team.”

“We have also frozen the price of our Advance Purchase fares at 2016 prices, making it easier to organise a great value Sunday trip out with the family.”

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Committee said, “Sundays are an important and busy day with lots of passengers across the region choosing to travel for leisure purposes. Rail services are also very busy and I am pleased that an additional service is being provided between Manchester Piccadilly and Stalybridge. I am sure passengers will appreciate the extra travel options and look forward to Greater Manchester benefitting from an enhanced weekend service in the coming months.”

The Manchester Piccadilly to Hull train will now call at Stalybridge at 0940, 1155, 1355 and hourly up until 1755.

The Hull to Manchester Piccadilly train will call at Stalybridge at 1115, 1315 and hourly to 1715, then finally at 1915.
