9 money saving tips for your trip

Getting your hands on cheap train tickets should be a piece of cake. Especially when all of the other reasons to travel by train – no time-wasting traffic jams, food and drink at your seat, arriving right in the heart of a destination – beat taking the car. So whether you’ve got a trip already in the making or a weekend lying spare, follow these easy steps and get things moving.

Book as early as you can

Save up to 50% by booking your train tickets in advance. It's as simple as that. Most routes are open to book 12 weeks in advance and now, for the Anglo-Scottish route, you can book 24 weeks ahead of time.

No booking or credit card fees

Unlike some other providers, TransPennine Express won’t charge you any booking or credit card fees, so it always pays to book train tickets direct with us.

Book travel anywhere in Great Britain

Whilst we call the North and Scotland our home, we can book trains for travel anywhere in Great Britain, even if it's not on the TransPennine Express network.

Get a Railcard

Get a guaranteed 1/3 off train tickets with a railcard. Available for 1 or 3 years, there’s a railcard for nearly everyone – students, families, jobseekers and more so you can get where you want to go for less.

Collect Nectar points

If you have a Nectar card, register it when you buy train tickets online with us and you'll get 2 points per £1 you spend. You can also get 200 points for a monthly Season Ticket and 2,500 points for an annual Season Ticket.

Be flexible

Train ticket prices vary throughout the day, so if you're flexible with what time you can travel, choose your train based on which offers the cheapest train tickets.

Price promise

We promise that you cannot buy a publicly available ticket for a TransPennine Express train journey cheaper anywhere else online*. In the unlikely event that you do, we’ll refund the difference.

Upgrade to First Class on the day

If you have a Standard Ticket and are travelling on Saturday, Sunday or a Bank Holiday you can upgrade on the train for a £10.00 single journey supplement paid to the conductor so long as seats are available.
