We are working with train operators in the north west and north east, to offer a wider choice of mobile tickets on our app for a trial period.
If you are making a journey on any train between Newcastle and York or Preston and Carlisle and you purchase an Advance, Anytime or Off-Peak ticket via the tpexpress app, you can chose to receive an m-ticket for your journey.
Which journeys does the m-ticket cover?
If you are travelling between any of the following stations, you can chose to receive an m-ticket:
North west stations: Ansdell and Fairhaven, Arnside, Askam, Aspatria, Bardon Mill, Bare Lane, Barrow in Furness, Blackpool North, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blackpool South, Bootle (Cumbria), Brampton (Cumbria), Braystones, Burneside, Cark and Cartmel, Carlisle, Carnforth, Corkickle, Dalston, Dalton, Drigg, Flimby, Foxfield, Grange over Sands, Green Road, Haltwhistle, Harrington, Haydon Bridge, Hexham, Heysham Port, Kendal, Kents Bank, Kirkby in Furness, Kirkham & Wesham, Lancaster, Layton, Lytham, Maryport, Millom, Morecambe, Moss Side, Nethertown, Oxenholme Lake District, Parton, Penrith North Lakes, Poulton le Fylde, Preston, Ravenglass for Eskdale, Roose, Salwick, Seascale, Sellafield, Silecroft, Silverdale, Squires Gate, St Annes on Sea, St.Bees, Stavely, Ulverston, Wetheral, Whitehaven, Wigton, Windermere, Workington.

Which tickets are available as m-tickets?
At the moment, our app offers m-tickets on Transpennine Express Advance tickets, however the trial widens this to include Anytime and Off-Peak tickets on Transpennine Express, Cross Country, Virgin Trains East Coast or Northern services.
Unfortunately the trial does not include Duo, Club 55 or Season tickets.
How do m-tickets work?
If you haven’t used m-tickets before, they are a really great alternative to carrying around a printed ticket. All you need to do is download the tpexpress app, buy your ticket – you can get the Anytime and Off Peak tickets up to 10 minutes before you get on the train. Then just activate your ticket to make sure it’s valid and show your m-ticket to the station staff or conductor on the train like you would with a printed ticket.
Find out more about m-tickets, view our terms and conditions or download the tpexpress app.
Will I need to have Internet access?
You will need access to the internet when purchasing the m-ticket, but not when activating the ticket. You will need to activate the ticket before getting on the train in order for it to be a valid ticket and please make sure you phone is charged.
