Located just outside Manchester in the city of Salford, Irlam was once an important inland port on the Manchester Ship Canal. But nowadays it’s much easier to take a train to Irlam than hitch a ride aboard a canal boat!
Although it’s close to the city centre, Irlam has the largest farming community in Greater Manchester thanks to the high proportion of moss land in the area. Steel manufacture was once the main source of employment in Irlam, but now many residents make a living working at the factory of Kingsland Wine & Spirits, the UK's largest independent wine bottler.
We offer regular and comfortable trains to Irlam from major towns and cities in the north of England and Scotland. All our trains have the option of travelling First class and a trolley service is available on our core routes.Buy tickets
