Why take the train to Manchester?

There's something for everyone in Manchester from top-notch restaurants to fun-filled attractions, as well as a few hidden delights for the curious tourist.

Often dubbed the Capital of the North, Manchester is one of the most dynamic and lively places in Europe, so much so in 2015 the city was lauded as a must-visit destination by the likes of Lonely Planet and the New York Times. A big city with a compact and friendly centre, The Stone Roses singer Ian Brown famously said “Manchester’s got everything except a beach”.

Over the last few years an extensive regeneration programme has transformed the face of the city with new areas such as First Street, NOMA and the Corn Exchange springing up to the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

At the same time, more established neighbourhoods like the Northern Quarter and Spinningfields have now come in to their own as drinking and dining hubs.

This has all been accompanied by a cultural resurgence within the city, coined a ‘cultural boomtown’ by Lonely Planet and spearheaded by venues such as HOME and The Whitworth gallery.

The city boasts two of the biggest football clubs in the world; Manchester United and Manchester City, which can be found within 3 miles of Manchester Piccadilly train station and offer remarkable museum and stadium tours so you can get behind the scenes of your favourite club. Recognised the country over as a shoppers paradise, there is an array of shops to suit all tastes from high-street names to designer boutiques and vintage stores; shopping is well worth more than just one day's attention, so why not book into one of Manchester's many city centre hotels to make the most of your visit.

With our regular trains to Manchester and the reliable coach, bus and tram services, transport links in and around the city are second to none.
