Situated in the centre of Sheffield, just a short drive from Meadowhall is the city’s premier destination for art, craft and design – the Millennium Gallery. Opened in April 2001, as part of the ‘Heart of the City’ project, the gallery displays some unique heritage, including the metalwork which made the city world famous, alongside contemporary art and design exhibitions.
Located in one of the city’s oldest industrial districts, the museum houses exhibitions on science and Sheffield industry. Kelham Island Museum opened in 1982, to house the objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield’s industrial story. The museum stands on a man-made island over 900 years old, the interactive galleries tell the story from light trades and skilled workmanship to mass production.
