As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the multi-billion-pound project transforming rail travel across the Pennines, Huddersfield station will be closed for 30 days between Saturday 30 August and Sunday 28 September to enable remodelling work at the station.
During the 30-day closure, teams from Network Rail will be delivering platform and track remodelling work at Huddersfield station. This includes extending the length of the current platform 2 to accommodate longer trains and remodelling the current platform 1 with platform extensions taking place to the east of the station.
Alongside this, there will be a significant amount of work taking place on Huddersfield viaduct, with one of the arches being completely replaced, whilst other sections of the viaduct will undergo extensive strengthening work. Other work will also be taking place on the route between Huddersfield and Stalybridge and at Deighton station too.
Whilst some of the routes will be shut, Network Rail will also be carrying out track renewals and signalling commissioning.
While work upgrading Huddersfield station and the surrounding routes is happening, some services are being diverted to keep you on trains where possible. Where this isn’t possible, rail replacement buses will run to keep you moving.
Amended timetables will be in operation from Saturday 30 August to Sunday 28 September. Customers should plan ahead and check before they travel.
Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester Victoria – Leeds – York – Newcastle
Services will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Leeds, calling additionally at Lea Green and Brighouse. Customers for Huddersfield should change at Brighouse for onward travel.
Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester Victoria – Leeds – Hull
Services from Hull will start/terminate at Leeds instead of Liverpool Lime Street. Customers should change at Leeds for onward travel.
Manchester Airport – Manchester Victoria – Leeds – York – Middlesbrough – Redcar Central
Monday – Saturday: Services start/terminate at Manchester Victoria instead of Manchester Airport and will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling additionally at Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Brighouse. Customers for Huddersfield should change at Brighouse for onward travel.
Sunday only: Services will run from Manchester Airport and will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling additionally at Brighouse. Customers for Huddersfield should change at Brighouse for onward travel.
Manchester Victoria – Leeds – York – Scarborough
Monday – Saturday: Services will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling additionally at Castleton and Brighouse. Customers for Huddersfield should change at Brighouse for onward travel.
Sunday only: Services will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury, calling additionally at Brighouse. Customers for Huddersfield should change at Brighouse for onward travel.
Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield – Wakefield Kirkgate – York
Services on this route will be split to run between Manchester Piccadilly and Stalybridge and between Wakefield Kirkgate and York, calling at Normanton and Castleford.
Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Leeds (local stopping service)
From Saturday 30 August, TransPennine Express will no longer operate local stopping services on this route and they will transfer over to Northern.
During the 30-day closure of Huddersfield, Northern will run a local stopping services between Leeds and Bradford Interchange via Dewsbury (Leeds and Halifax on a Sunday), calling at Cottingley, Morley, Batley, Dewsbury, Ravensthorpe, Mirfield, Brighouse, Halifax and Low Moor.
Please note: TransPennine Express are picking up additional calls on the Calder Valley route between Manchester Victoria and Brighouse to enable three TPE trains an hour to run on this diversionary route between Leeds and Manchester Victoria. Northern services on this route will run to an amended timetable and customers should check before they travel.
Huddersfield – Sheffield (local stopping service)
From Saturday 30 August until Sunday 7 September and Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 September
Services from Sheffield will start/terminate at Penistone. Rail replacement services will run between Penistone and Huddersfield (all stops) and Barnsley and Huddersfield (direct).
From Monday 8 September until Friday 26 September
Services from Sheffield will start/terminate at Berry Brow. Rail replacement services will run between Berry Brow and Huddersfield (all stops).
Huddersfield – Bradford Interchange
This service will not run. Rail replacement services will run between Huddersfield and Brighouse. Trains will run between Leeds – Brighouse – Halifax – Bradford Interchange (Leeds – Halifax, Sundays only).
Manchester Airport – Stockport – Huddersfield – Brighouse
Monday – Saturday: An hourly rail replacement bus will be running in both directions. Estimated journey time: 98 minutes
Sunday: An hourly rail replacement bus will be running in both directions between Huddersfield and Manchester Airport via Stockport. Estimated journey time: 98 minutes
Stalybridge – Huddersfield
A half-hourly direct rail replacement bus will be running in both directions. Estimated journey time: 50 minutes
Stalybridge – Mossley – Greenfield – Marsden – Slaithwaite – Huddersfield
A half-hourly all stops rail replacement bus will be running in both directions. On Sundays only, one bus an hour will extend through to Guide Bridge. Estimated journey time: 64 minutes
Marsden – Slaithwaite – Brighouse (peak time only)
Monday – Friday: In morning peaks, additional services will run from Marsden and Slaithwaite to Brighouse avoiding Huddersfield to enable connections towards Leeds. In evening peaks, services will
run from Brighouse avoiding Huddersfield to Slaithwaite and Marsden. Estimated journey time: 40 minutes
Huddersfield – Brighouse
A service will operate directly between Huddersfield and Brighouse up to every 15 minutes. Estimated journey time: 15 minutes
Huddersfield – Deighton – Mirfield – Dewsbury – Wakefield Kirkgate
An hourly all stops rail replacement bus will be running in both directions. Estimated journey time: 60 minutes
Huddersfield – Penistone (all stops)
An hourly all stops rail replacement bus will be running in both directions from Saturday 30 August until Sunday 7 September and Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 September. Estimated journey time: 88 minutes
Huddersfield – Barnsley (direct)
An hourly direct rail replacement bus will be running in both directions from Saturday 30 August until Sunday 7 September and Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 September. Estimated journey time: 60 minutes
Huddersfield – Berry Brow (all stops)
An hourly all stops rail replacement bus will be running in both directions from Monday 8 September until Friday 26 September calling at Lockwood. Estimated journey time: 17 minutes
