December 2025 Timetable Change

From Sunday 14 December, we will be making changes on some of our routes, introducing new services as well as providing more carriages where we can.

We will be working with the wider rail industry to support the launch of a new timetable on the East Coast Mainline, which will see more frequent and faster services, as well as extra seats.

Timetables can now be found in journey planners, with full timetables being published to our website soon.

A summary of changes during the December 2025 timetable change can be found below:

Between Newcastle and Edinburgh

There will be an increase in the number of services operated by TransPennine Express between Newcastle and Edinburgh from five to eight per day, boosting connectivity for local communities and providing further connections at Newcastle and Edinburgh as well as throughout the route.

This increase represents a thousand more seats per day between Newcastle and Edinburgh, with a train service every two hours, including a new commuter service which will allow customers to get into Edinburgh for 0720 in the morning (Monday to Saturday).

Between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes

Most train services operating between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes will operate with more carriages on Sundays. In addition, a new service will be introduced from Liverpool Lime Street (departing at 0813) to Cleethorpes on Sundays.

More train services operating between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes with more carriages, creating around 4,000 additional seats per week on this route.

In addition, there are some minor changes:

• On Saturdays, the 2026 Cleethorpes to Manchester Piccadilly service will extend to Liverpool Lime Street, departing from Manchester Piccadilly at 2307 and calling at all regular stations on this route
• On Sundays, the 0909 Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes service will be extended back to Liverpool Lime Street where it will depart at 0817 and call at all regular stations on this route
• On Sundays, the 0811 Sheffield to Liverpool Lime Street service will call additionally at Dore and Totley
