Why take the train to Thornaby?
Thornaby, also known as Thornaby-on-Tees, lies four miles southwest of Middlesbrough and just across the river from Stockton-on-Tees.
The town was once home to a Royal Air Force base, and today you can follow the Thornaby Heritage Aerodrome Trail to discover more about the area's rich aviation history - just look out for the distinctive blue plaques.
Take a train to Thornaby and you can also while away a few hours browsing the Pavilion Shopping Centre or Teesside Shopping Park, stopping off for lunch at one of the many restaurants and cafes on the way.
And don't forget that the popular Thornaby Show is held here every September, with a whole host of family-friendly fun to enjoy (and, of course, that a TransPennine Express train is certainly the simplest way to get there…
