Changes To Train Times

From time to time maintenance work needs to be carried out on the rail network to help improve our rail services. Generally this work will occur overnight or at weekends.

Search below to find out if there are any planned changes to our train times that may affect your journey.

Some alterations listed below may involve rail replacement bus services when trains are unable to run.

The location of bus pick up points are shown on the Onward Travel Information poster displayed at most stations or online here

Where rail replacement buses are in operation, heavy luggage, bicycles, prams etc and animals (other than registered assistance dogs) cannot be conveyed.

  • Weekend alterations (Bank Holiday) - 23/05/2015 - 24/05/2015

    South Trans-Pennine route (services between Manchester and Sheffield, Doncaster & Cleethorpes)

    Services between Doncaster and Cleethorpes will be replaced by buses.

    The 2155 Newcastle to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Huddersfield.

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will operate as 2 separate trains:

    TRAIN 1:  2320 Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly TRAIN 2: 0021 Huddersfield to York

    A replacement bus will run from Manchester Airport (2345) to Piccadilly (0010) then set down only at Huddersfield 0110, Dewsbury (0135) and Leeds (0210)

    Sunday

    A REVISED TIMETABLE will be in operation on this route until 1600.

    Services will be diverted between Leeds and Huddersfield and will not call at Dewsbury with through journey times extended by up to 15 minutes.

    The 0100 & 0425 Manchester Airport to York services will be replaced by buses.

    The 0630 Manchester Airport to York service will terminate at Stalybridge with a bus forward to Leeds via Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

    The 0730 Manchester Airport to Newcastle service will operate as 2 separate trains:

    TRAIN 1:  Manchester Airport to Stalybridge with a bus forward to Leeds via Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

    TRAIN 2: Huddersfield to Newcastle departing Huddersfield 10 minutes EARLIER than normal at 0808.

    The 0803 Manchester Airport to Scarborough service will operate as 2 separate trains:

    TRAIN 1:  Manchester Airport to Stalybridge.

    TRAIN 2: Huddersfield to Scarborough departing Huddersfield 10 minutes EARLIER than normal at 0842.

     

    The 0230, 0400 & 0512 York to Manchester Airport services will be replaced by buses (dep York 0130, 0330 & 0455).

    The 0612 York to Manchester Airport service will operate as 2 separate trains:

    TRAIN 1: 0612 York to Huddersfield with a bus forward to Stalybridge.

    TRAIN 2: 0719 Stalybridge to Manchester Airport.

    The 0712 York to Manchester Airport service will operate as 2 separate trains:

    TRAIN 1: 0712 York to Huddersfield. TRAIN 2: 0819 Stalybridge to Manchester Airport.

    An hourly shuttle service will operate between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime St replacing the usual Liverpool to Newcastle service (services towards Liverpool will call additionally at Newton-le-Willows).

    Due to tunnel reconstruction work taking place at Farnworth (near Bolton) services on the Manchester to Preston route via Bolton and Chorley will operate to a revised timetable.

    All services between Manchester and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness will be diverted via an alternative route and will call additionally at Wigan North Western.

    Replacement buses will operate between Manchester Airport and Preston calling at Manchester Piccadilly, Bolton, Horwich Parkway and Chorley.

    From 0800 services between Manchester and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh will terminate at / start from Carlisle.

    Replacement buses will operate between Carlisle and Edinburgh via Lockerbie.

    Virgin Trains will provide replacement bus services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central with selected services calling at Lockerbie.

    Sunday

    Northbound Services from Manchester to Glasgow Central / Edinburgh will terminate at Lancaster and will therefore not call at Oxenholme, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Edinburgh or Glasgow Central.

    Customers for Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Edinburgh or Glasgow Central are advised to use replacement coach services (provided by Virgin) from Prestonto Penrith & Carlisle. Change at Carlisle for replacement coach services to Lockerbie, Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

    Services between Oxenholme and Windermere will be extended to start back from Preston and will call additionally at Lancaster.

    As a result services between Oxenholme and Windermere will operate to a revised timetable.

    Southbound Services from Glasgow Central / Edinburgh to Manchester will start from Lancaster and will therefore not call at Oxenholme, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Edinburgh or Glasgow Central.

    Customers from Edinburgh, Glasgow Central and Lockerbie are advised to use replacement coach services (provided by Virgin) to Carlisle. Change at Carlisle for replacement coach services to Penrith, Oxenholme and Preston. Customers for Lancaster will be required to change at Oxenholme for trains services.

    Services between Windermere and Oxenholme will be extended to Preston and will call additionally at Lancaster.

    As a result services between Windermere and Oxenholme will operate to a revised timetable.

    Monday to Thursday

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Dewsbury and will be retimed to depart Leeds 12 minutes later than normal.

    A replacement bus will run from Huddersfield to Dewsbury.

    Monday to Friday

    The 0138 & 0252 York to Manchester Victoria services will be retimed to depart Huddersfield 13 minutes later than advertised.

    The 0450 Manchester Victoria to Newcastle service will depart at 0455 and will be re-timed to depart Huddersfield EARLIER than normal at 0525.

    A number of evening peak time services FROM Manchester will continue to call at Bolton, Horwich Parkway and Chorley.

    At all other times a reduced frequency service (provided by Northern Rail) will operate at Bolton and Chorley.

    Additionally, the 0912 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will start from Leeds.

    The 0943 Leeds to Newcastle service will start back from Huddersfield at 0918 and call additionally at Dewsbury.

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will be retimed to depart Manchester Piccadilly 09 minutes later at 2346.

    A replacement bus will operate from Manchester Airport (2320) to York via Manchester Piccadilly (2345) and Huddersfield (0045) and then continuing to set down only at Dewsbury and Leeds.

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 0138 & 0252 York to Manchester Victoria services will not call at Huddersfield but will call additionally at Brighouse.

    Replacement buses will operate from Huddersfield (dep 0225 & 0340) to Brighouse to connect with the train and will then return from Brighouse to Huddersfield connecting off the train.

    Due to tunnel reconstruction work taking place at Farnworth (near Bolton) services on the Manchester to Preston route via Bolton and Chorley will operate to a revised timetable.

    All services between Manchester and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness will be diverted via an alternative route and with selected services calling additionally at Wigan North Western.

    Replacement buses will operate between Manchester Airport and Preston calling at Manchester Piccadilly, Bolton, Horwich Parkway and Chorley.

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Dewsbury.

    A connecting replacement bus will run from Huddersfield (dep 0025) to Dewsbury.

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 0105 Manchester Victoria to York service will depart Leeds 12 minutes later than normal.

    The 0450 Manchester Victoria to Newcastle service will depart Huddersfield 15 minutes EARLIER than normal.

    The 2022 Liverpool Lime St to Newcastle service will not call at Thirsk.

    Customers travelling to Thirsk should travel through to Northallerton and change there for a mini bus back to Thirsk.

    A replacement mini bus will run from Thirsk (dep 2245) to Northallerton to connect with this train.

    To cater for commuters a small number of morning peak time services TOWARDS Manchester will continue to call at Chorley, Horwich Parkway and Bolton.

    A number of evening peak time services FROM Manchester will continue to call at Bolton, Horwich Parkway and Chorley.

    At all other times a reduced frequency service (provided by Northern Rail) will operate at Bolton and Chorley.
