Manchester Airport Railway Station Short Listed for International Rail Award

07 Nov 2008

MANCHESTER Airport railway station has been short listed for an international award.

The station, which is managed by First TransPennine Express, is in the running for 'Best Medium Sized Station' in the International Station Awards.

Judges from across Europe will visit the station tomorrow (Wednesday) to compare it against other short listed stations in the competition. This includes stations in Holland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and England.

Alex Walker, station manager, said: "It is a fantastic achievement to be short listed for an international award. Manchester Airport is a really busy station which acts as a gateway for many people who are often visiting England for the first time. It is great that this has been acknowledged and I just hope that it can win the competition."

The judges will be assessing the station on a range of points including its facilities, cleanliness, friendliness of staff and community involvement.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Belfast on Thursday 13th.
