Why take the train to Newton-le-Willows?
Located midway between Manchester and Liverpool, Newton-le-Willows railway station is one of the oldest in the country. In fact, the surrounding area was one of the original 'railway towns', with several locomotive manufacturers based here during the 19th century.
But the town has plenty to offer besides its rich railway history... The Kirkfields Hotel, a former coaching inn, is said to be one of the most haunted public houses in Britain, while The Vulcan Village, which once housed workers from the nearby Vulcan Foundry, has recently become a conservation area.
All this, plus the busy pedestrianised main shopping street mean that there's plenty to see and do when you take a train to Newton-le-Willows.
