6 of our favourite ideas to celebrate Father’s Day 2021

Monday 31st May 2021

Dads deserve their special day of recognition every year, but this year even more than usual. In the last year, dads have become home-school teachers, balanced working from home with family life and have been separated from loved ones for long stretches. So, with Father’s Day 2021 on 20th June this year, it’s time to show the dads in our lives just how much they mean to us.

Whether you want to treat your dad to a day to remember, get some family time in the fresh air, or toast them with something special, here are six of our favourite ideas for Father’s Day 2021.

  1. Let them indulge in one of their big passions
  2. Dad a huge football fan? Consider himself a music lover? Whatever your dad’s passion there are plenty of ways to let him indulge this across the North of England and Scotland. For the football mad dads, there are the stadium tours of both Manchester United and Manchester City in Manchester, Everton or Liverpool on Merseyside or Newcastle United in Newcastle.

For the music fans out there, a memorable Father’s Day gift could include a trip to the Beatles Story in Liverpool or a music tour of Manchester’s most famous spots from the Salford Lads Club to Night & Day, and Band on the Wall.

  3. Give him a little pampering at a luxurious spa
  4. Dads don’t always get a break to stop and recharge the batteries, making a relaxing spa day a great way to treat them on Father’s Day. And there are loads of tranquil spas in cities across the North of England and Scotland that will help dad feel like a new man.

Choose from Maya Blue Wellness at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, the Balmoral Spa in Edinburgh, The Grand in York, and King Street Townhouse in Manchester (complete with a rooftop pool). Lucky dad, we say.

  5. Get the adrenaline flowing
  6. If your dad’s an adrenaline junkie, why not treat him to a Father’s Day gift to remember this year? In Manchester, TeamSport Go Karting offers a unique circuit under Manchester Arena with 550m of track, plenty of high-octane straights and complex corners. And with the karts capable of reaching speeds of 40mph, it’s definitely one for dads who dreamed of once making it in Formula 1.

Also in Manchester is indoor sky-diving with iFly, whilst those dads that want to really rediscover their inner Viking can take on axe throwing in Edinburgh.

  7. Enjoy a family walk in the fresh air
  8. There’s nothing like a bracing family walk in the fresh air, whether along the coast or through some of the fantastic countryside across our network. Whether your dad’s a keen hiker or just likes spending time outdoors with his nearest and dearest, great options for family walks include hiking up to Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, the sand dunes at Redcar Sands, Liverpool’s Sefton Park, Jesmond Dene in Newcastle, Sheffield Botanic Gardens and the River Wear in Durham.

  9. Toast your dad with something extra special

For dads that like a wee dram or a craft beer, Father’s Day is the perfect time to give something a little special. A trip to the Scotch Whisky Experience is a must for whisky connoisseurs. Located at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, it has been inspiring whisky lovers for over 30 years with its whisky tours, whisky tasting, whisky masterclasses, training school, shop and restaurant.

For the craft beer fanatical dads, Honest Brew offer a Father’s Day bundle of six craft beers, a tasting glass and a pair of socks, whilst independent local breweries such as Manchester’s Shindigger, Cloudwater and Northern Monk all offer delivery services for craft beer enthusiasts.

  10. Enjoy a Sunday roast to remember
  11. For many dads, the best Father’s Day treat is to have all their family around them and indulge in a sumptuous Sunday roast. And there are plenty of places from across our network that offer exactly that, from the Rattle Owl in York, the Brunswick in Leeds, Mr Thomas’ Chop House in Manchester and the Ox in Edinburgh.

Whatever you decide to do with your dad this Father’s Day, it really is the time to plan something extra special.

If you’re planning a journey remember to check current government travel guidelines. If you can, try to travel during off-peak times and buy tickets in advance to book a seat. And remember, when you’re ready to get going, we’re here for you.
