5 Ideas For Celebrating New Year’s Eve

Monday 22nd November 2021
It’s nearly time to say goodbye to 2021 and welcome 2022 in style. So, whether you want to stay out all night long or stick to a more relaxed itinerary, we’ve got no shortage of New Year’s Eve inspiration. Prepare to celebrate with one of the following fabulous ideas:

  1. Join the epic Hogmanay countdown in Edinburgh

Everyone should attend a big Hogmanay celebration at some point in their life. The Scottish version of New Year doesn’t just end once the clock strikes midnight. It’s one of the most important events in the nation’s calendar, with festivities typically lasting until 2nd January.

Edinburgh Hogmanay is easily the biggest – and arguably the best – Hogmanay celebration in Scotland, complete with festive stalls, fantastic food and ticketed music events. The main celebrations on 31st December take place along Princes Street and culminate in a magical firework display when it turns midnight.

The monumental Edinburgh Castle is also lit up to mark the occasion. If you’re in the city for a few days, you’ll be able to catch the city’s torchlight procession on 30th December. The spectacular sight honours Scotland’s Viking heritage and features hundreds of torch-bearers walking together down the length of the Royal Mile.

  2. Go for all-out glamour at a black-tie ball

Those after an excuse to dress up will love the many black-tie events being hosted across the North and Scotland this New Year.

The Grand Hotel in York is as plush as it sounds. You’ll discover it right around the corner from York station and it’s easily one of the fanciest venues in the city. In 2021, the hotel will be hosting a magnificent masquerade ball that features a five-course tasting menu and lots of live entertainment.

Also in Yorkshire, The Crown Spa Hotel right on Scarborough’s South Bay Beach is set to host a Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve Party. Tickets start at £95 per person and the event includes a decadent multi-course dinner, live band and fun photo booths. Get your flapper dresses at the ready.

  3. Party with your friends at a bar or club in Manchester

Manchester’s nightlife is legendary, and you’ll find plenty of venues across the city hosting amazing New Year’s Eve parties. There are loads of events taking place on 31st December, with something to suit every age and interest. Why not book tickets for one of the following celebrations:

    • Clubland New Year’s Eve 2021 at O2 Victoria Warehouse – dance all night long at one of the largest live music venues in the North
    • NYE Glitterball celebration at Menagerie Restaurant & Bar – dress up in sequins and enjoy a tantalising meal and drinks at one of Manchester’s most inventive restaurants
    • New Year’s Eve at 20 Stories – watch fireworks go off across the city from the lofty terrace of this beautiful restaurant and bar
    • Rooftop New Year’s Eve Party at King Street Townhouse Hotel – go all-out Gatsby with a Roaring 20s-themed night on the rooftop of this five-star hotel
    • Café Mambo New Year’s Eve at Albert Hall – enjoy an Ibiza-esque night of revelry with this themed club night at Manchester’s majestic Albert Hall

Don’t forget to book your tickets well in advance to avoid missing out!

  4. Enjoy a chilled-out evening in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle

If you’d rather not stay out until the small hours, a trip to Liverpool’s Baltic Market is the ideal alternative NYE night out.

The much-loved food market sits on the edge of the trendy Baltic Triangle, and it will be hosting a terrific event this New Year. You can dine on delicious grub from the city’s top independent restaurants and boogie to live bands and DJ sets.

Want to keep the night going once the clock strikes midnight? There are plenty of other bars and clubs near the market which will be hosting parties well past the big countdown.

  5. Avoid all the hubbub with a relaxing getaway

Rather keep away from the crowds this New Year? No worries! There are so many destinations across our network where you can escape for a weekend of relaxation. Durham, with its medieval castle and cathedral, is ideal for history buffs, while Malton is packed with charm and is surrounded by the gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside.

Book your train tickets in advance to one of the above cities and get ready to celebrate the start of 2022 in style.
