Our Club 55 discount

Before we dive into all the incredible places you could visit with your bargain train tickets, let’s have a look at how the deal works.

So, what is Club 55?

Club 55 is a month-long promotion running especially for our customers aged 55 and over. Through Club 55, anyone aged 55+ can bag off peak return tickets to stations across our network for £20 Standard Class and £36 First Class when buying online on the dedicated webpage or via the TPExpress app with code CLUB55, or £25 / £45 if bought at the station.

With this fantastic offer, now you can enjoy more days out across the North and Scotland for a lot less.

Good to know:

  • Tickets must be bought before 23:59 on the day before you intend to travel. They can’t be bought on the day you wish to travel.
  • The return portion of your ticket can be used within one month of your outward journey, so why not make it a staycation or weekend away instead of a day trip?
  • Club 55 tickets are valid off peak (after 09:30 Monday to Friday and anytime at weekends and Bank Holidays).
  • You’ll need to carry proof of age to show you’re 55+ when you travel.

When does the offer begin and end?

Our Club 55 offer starts on 11 November and ends on 10 December, giving you a month to book fantastic trips across our network. It falls within the pre-Christmas build up period too, allowing you to take advantage of festive markets, great shopping centres and cosy restaurants serving up delicious, winter-themed menus.

How to make the most of your Club 55 offer

Now you know the ins and outs of our awesome Club 55 offer, it’s time to choose where to go. Need a little inspiration? Here are four fabulous ideas for day trips or weekend breaks across our network:

  1. Take a tour of Edinburgh’s historic highlights

There are few better city break destinations than the Scottish capital! If you’ve always wanted to visit (or have been before and loved it), our Club 55 offer gives you the ideal excuse to book a trip to Edinburgh.

Enjoy discounted travel into the city and then spend time soaking up its many monumental sites. The regal Edinburgh Castle is a must-see at least once in your life, while the picture-perfect Royal Mile is inundated with restaurants, cafés and shops.

Edinburgh looks particularly pretty in winter too, thanks to the city’s glittering Christmas lights – lighting up the streets from 19 November. Make a beeline for George Street where the main installation is usually located and prepare to be blown away by hundreds of twinkling fairy lights.

  2.  Enjoy a brisk walk in the Lake District

Want to see the changing seasons in the great outdoors? There are few better places to visit than the Lake District! Luckily for you, we stop at several stations which give you access to wonderful walking routes.

Book tickets to Penrith and enjoy an amble up Beacon Hill for panoramic views across the national park. Afterwards, you could explore Penrith Castle before popping into a traditional tearoom for a warming cuppa. You could also choose to hop off the train in Oxenholme for a leisurely walk across the surrounding hills or venture a bit further to Carlisle to tackle a portion of the Hadrian’s Wall Path.

  3. Do some early Christmas shopping in Liverpool

Get your Christmas presents picked out, purchased and gift-wrapped ahead of time with a trip to Liverpool. The city’s Liverpool One shopping area is jam-packed with stores to suit all interests and budgets. As well as high street brands, you’ll spot loads of independent shops and high-end boutiques.

While you’re in Liverpool, why not take a stroll down to the historic Albert Dock to see the Christmas lights or catch an art exhibition at Tate Liverpool? There’s also the option of visiting the magnificent Liverpool Cathedral that sits just a short walk up the hill from Liverpool One.

  4. Get in the festive spirit in Manchester

Manchester’s Christmas markets are famed across the UK and perfect for getting into the festive spirit this winter. Travel by train once they open on 10 November and discover hundreds of stalls scattered across the City Centre.

Planning your visit in the week rather than at the weekend means you can enjoy a more leisurely market experience. Shop for handmade artisan goods, sample delicious seasonal treats and then settle down in a café or at one of the market’s pop-up bars for a coffee or a steaming cup of mulled wine.

Remember Club 55 is a limited time offer so bag your tickets for a trip across our network before 10 December. Simply book via the dedicated webpage, with code CLUB55 on the TPExpress app or mention the discount at the ticket office when purchasing tickets in person.
