The cities on our network have been the backdrop for many iconic TV and film productions from Sherlock Holmes to Steve McQueen’s latest film Blitz. With the TransPennine Express 4 in 8-day Rover tickets, you can explore these famous filming locations across the north of England.

In 1888, Frenchman Louis Le-Prince, created the first moving picture on paper film featuring Leeds Bridge. Since then Leeds has continued to be a film and TV star.
Roundhay Park, the city centre and suburb of Chapel Allerton can all be spotted in the backdrop to 2019 film ‘Official Secrets’ starring Keira Knightley, while Netflix productions ‘Bank of Dave’ (2023) and ‘Bank of Dave 2’ (2025) saw scenes filmed in local squares and streets in the city centre, and famously at the Duck & Drake pub. Beautiful heritage spots such as Harewood House, Leeds City Varieties and Temple Newsam pop up regularly in BBC and ITV drama series’ including ‘Peaky Blinders’ (2013) Happy Valley (2023), ‘Victoria’ (2016), ‘Gentleman Jack’ (2022) and ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ (2024). And Elland Road featured in famous scenes from The King’s Speech (2010).
Liverpool is the most filmed city in the UK outside of London and has some incredible filming locations across the region to visit. Home to a vast array of stunning architecture to beautiful rural villages, breathtaking beaches and historic streets.
