As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the multi-billion-pound project transforming rail travel across the Pennines, Huddersfield station is currently undergoing remodelling and upgrade work which will are set to be completed in early 2027.
Following the reopening of Huddersfield station on Monday 29 September, Huddersfield looks and operates differently than before. The station now has an amended platform layout, reducing the number of platforms to three instead of the previous six. Half of the station has been sectioned off to allow for engineers to continue the upgrade works.
Changes to the station
The three operating platforms have been renumbered as follows:
- Platform 2 (towards Sheffield) is now platform 1
- Platform 1 (towards Manchester and Liverpool) is now platform 2
- Platform 4 (towards Leeds) is now platform 3
Changes to services
Whilst the station operates with a reduced number of platforms, there will be some changes to TransPennine Express and Northern services:
TransPennine Express:
- Local stopping services between Manchester Piccadilly to York will not call at Deighton
- Local stopping services (peak time only) between Manchester and Huddersfield will be extended to run non-stop to Leeds
Northern:
- Local stopping services between Huddersfield and Leeds will be diverted and no longer call at Deighton or Huddersfield. This service will operate between Leeds and Halifax, extending to Bradford Interchange from Monday to Saturday, additionally calling at Brighouse, Halifax and Low Moor (Monday to Saturday only). Customers travelling between Huddersfield and local stations on this line will need to change at Mirfield or use the replacement bus service to Brighouse (hourly) and change for onward connections towards Leeds.
- The Huddersfield to Bradford Interchange service will not run. Customers travelling towards Bradford will need to change at Mirfield or use the replacement bus service to Brighouse (hourly) and change for onward connections towards Halifax/Bradford Interchange.
