Changes To Train Times

From time to time maintenance work needs to be carried out on the rail network to help improve our rail services. Generally this work will occur overnight or at weekends.

Search below to find out if there are any planned changes to our train times that may affect your journey.

Some alterations listed below may involve rail replacement coach services when trains are unable to run.

  • Monday to Friday alterations - 20/02/2017 - 24/02/2017

    South Trans-Pennine route

    Services between Manchester and Sheffield, Doncaster & Cleethorpes

    Monday

    No planned alterations

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 0325 Sheffield to Manchester Airport service will be retimed to depart Sheffield later at 0345.

    North Trans-Pennine route

    Services between Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, York and the North East

    Monday only

    The 0045 Manchester Airport to York and 0422 Manchester Airport to Newcastle services will be diverted to start from Manchester Victoria.

    Replacement coaches will run from Manchester Airport (departing 0025 & 0405) and Manchester Piccadilly (departing 0050 & 0430) to Manchester Victoria to connect with these trains.

    The 0138 York to Manchester Airport service will be diverted to terminate at Manchester Victoria with a replacement coach provided forward to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

    Monday to Thursday

    The 2155 Newcastle to Manchester Airport service will depart Huddersfield 05 minutes later than normal, arrive at Manchester Piccadilly 33 minutes later than normal and Manchester Airport 27 minutes later than normal.

    The 2228 York to Manchester Piccadilly service will depart Huddersfield 05 minutes later than normal and arrive at Manchester Piccadilly 29 minutes later than normal.

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Huddersfield.

    A replacement bus will operate from Huddersfield (dep 0030) to Dewsbury to connect with the train and then return to Huddersfield connecting off the train.

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 0138 & 0252 York to Manchester Airport services will not call at Huddersfield but will call additionally at Brighouse.

    Replacement buses will operate from Huddersfield (dep 0225 & 0340) to Brighouse to connect with the train and will then return from Brighouse to Huddersfield connecting off the train (bus journey time 15 mins).

    The 0038 Manchester Airport to York service will start from Manchester Piccadilly. A replacement coach will run from Manchester Airport (dep 0015) to Manchester Piccadilly to connect with this train.

    Services between Manchester / Sheffield and Cleethorpes will be replaced by coaches between Doncaster and Scunthorpe.

    Rail services will operate from Manchester to Doncaster and Scunthorpe to Cleethorpes.

    Services between Liverpool Lime St and Newcastle will operate between Manchester Victoria and Newcastle only (at normal advertised times). Therefore, a reduced frequency service will be operating between Liverpool and Manchester which will result in trains being busier than normal.

    Alternative TransPennine Express services to / from Liverpool Lime St (via Warrington Central) are available as advertised in the current timetable

    The 0912 Liverpool Lime St to Newcastle service will start from Leeds.

    The 2012 Liverpool Lime St to Scarborough service will start from Manchester Victoria.

    Reason for these alterations?

    Construction work as part of the creation of the 'Ordsall Chord' - a new piece of railway which will link Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly stations from December 2017. Find out more here

    Northbound services are unaffected.

    The 2320 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Manchester Victoria. This service will be re-timed to depart Manchester Piccadilly later than normal at 2347, Huddersfield earlier at 0020, Dewsbury 0030 and Leeds 0045.

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 0038 Manchester Airport to York service will be re-timed to depart Manchester  Piccadilly at 0058 and will call additionally at Huddersfield at 0132 and Dewsbury at 0141.

    The 0422 Manchester Airport to Newcastle service will be re-timed to depart Manchester Piccadilly 22 minutes later than normal at 0459.

    Evening services between York and Newcastle / Middlesbrough will run to a revised timetable

    The 1726 & 1827 Middlesbrough to Manchester Piccadilly services will not call at Thirsk.

    Customers for Thirsk should change at Northallerton for replacement transport.

    Customers at Thirsk should travel to Northallerton using northbound train services or replacement coaches (dep 1725 & 1825) and change there.

    The 1930 Middlesbrough to York service will depart at 1919 and will run up to 12 minutes EARLIER than normal to York. This service will not call at Thirsk.

    The 1910 Newcastle to Manchester Airport service will depart EARLIER at 1901 and will run up to 09 minutes EARLIER than normal to York.

    The 2054 & 2150 Middlesbrough to York services will be replaced by buses.

    The 2155 Newcastle to Manchester Piccadilly service will run as 2 separate trains. TRAIN 1 - 2155 Newcastle to Darlington with a replacement coach provided forward to York calling at Northallerton and Thirsk. TRAIN 2 - 2305 York to Manchester Piccadilly.

    The 1812 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will run as 2 separate services. TRAIN 1- 1812 Liverpool LS to York with a replacement coach provided forward to Newcastle via Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Chester-le-Street. TRAIN 2 - 2041 Darlington to Newcastle.

    The 1912 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will terminate at York with a replacement coach provided forward to Newcastle via Northallerton, Darlington, and Durham.

    An additional train will run from Darlington (dep 2232) to Newcastle calling at Durham (2248) and Chester-le-Street (2254).

    The 1833 Manchester Airport to Middlesbrough service will run between Manchester Piccadilly and York only with a replacement coach provided forward to Middlesbrough via Thirsk, Northallerton, Yarm and Thornaby.

    Sunday

    Services from Newcastle / Middlesbrough to York will run to a revised timetable

    There will be no southbound (towards York) services to / from Thirsk.

    Customers at Thirsk for southbound services should travel to Northallerton using northbound train services (or replacement coaches) and change there.

    Southbound customers (from Newcastle / Middlesbrough routes) wishing to travel to Thirsk should change at Northallerton for replacement coach services.

    The 0800 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service will run as 2 separate trains. TRAIN 1 - 0800 Newcastle to Darlington. TRAIN 2 - 0911 York to Liverpool LS.

    The 0906 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service will run as 2 separate trains. TRAIN 1 - 0906 Newcastle to Darlington. TRAIN 2 - 1012 York to Liverpool LS.

    The 0847 York to Middlesbrough service will start from Darlington.

    The 0843 Leeds to Newcastle service will run as two separate trains. TRAIN 1 - 0843 Leeds to York. TRAIN 2 - 0941 Darlington to Newcastle.

    NOTE: Unless listed above, NORTHBOUND services are unaffected.

    The 1930 Middlesbrough to York service will start from Thornaby at 1913 and will run EARLIER than normal to York.

    The 1910 Newcastle to Manchester Airport service will depart EARLIER at 1849 and will run up to 21 minutes EARLIER than normal to York.

    The 2054 & 2150 Middlesbrough to York services will be replaced by buses.

    The 2155 Newcastle to Manchester Piccadilly service will run as 2 separate trains. TRAIN 1 - 2155 Newcastle to Darlington with a replacement coach provided forward to York calling at Northallerton and Thirsk. TRAIN 2 - 2305 York to Manchester Piccadilly.

    Alternative TPE services are available between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly as advertised in the current timetable

    The 0912 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will start from Leeds (therefore the 0951 departure from Manchester Victoria and 1021 from Huddersfield will not operate).

    The 2012 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough service will also be diverted to start from Manchester Piccadilly.

    From 1130 Saturday to 1430 Sunday there will be no train services between Carlisle and Lockerbie / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh.

    Replacement coaches will run between:

    • Carlisle and Edinburgh via Lockerbie extending journey times between the 2 cities by 90 minutes. (Customers for Haymarket should use Edinburgh Waverley).
    • Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Lockerbie (provided by Virgin Trains) extending journey times between the 2 cities by approx 55 minutes.

    The 0038 Manchester Airport to York service will start from Manchester Piccadilly.
