E-scooters are not permitted on our trains or within our stations. This is due to concerns over the fire safety threat that e-scooters and other lithium battery powered personal mobility transport devices can pose.
Similar devices, including hoverboards and e-skateboards are included in the ban.
We are committed to supporting customers who do not wish to drive to our stations but safety of our customers and staff must come first.
Most UK train operators have chosen to ban e-scooters in response to concerns regarding the fire risk posed by lithium battery powered personal mobility transport devices. Severe overheating associated with faulty or unregulated lithium batteries increases the risk of the batteries catching fire.
The rail industry will review this ban in due course, following improvements in the regulation of e-scooter use and manufacture.
Non-electric scooters are permitted onboard, but petrol scooters and mopeds are banned. This is due to the safety risk of carrying fuel onboard trains.
Mobility scooters are permitted onboard as long as they comply with our mobility scooter guidance and you are in the possession of a valid TransPennine Express scooter card.
Electric bikes are permitted as long as their space is booked in advance, and they are not charged onboard.
If you're travelling by bike, you can leave it at one of the free-to-use bike sheds or book a space for it onboard. Find out more.
