Penalty Fare Scheme

Buy before you board

Penalty Fare Scheme

TransPennine Express have introduced a Penalty Fare scheme which covers our whole network (except Scotland).
Where ticketing facilities are available, our customers are expected to buy their ticket before boarding the train.
If you do not buy your ticket before you travel, you could be issued with a Penalty Fare.
A Penalty fare is twice the full single fare for your journey or £20, whichever is greater.

Download the TPExpress app to buy e-tickets and the cheapest available fares.

For further information, download the TransPennine Express Penalty Fare Map.

Pay your Penalty Fare Notice

Penalty Fare Notices can be paid quickly and conveniently online. We use PayPal for these payments so that your card details are never shared with us, but you don't need a PayPal account to pay your Penalty Fare Notice online.
