Travel with confidence - updated 07th April '21

During your journey by train please follow this guidance

  • Protect others. Please wear a face covering so that your nose and mouth are covered. Government advice on face coverings.
Face coverings are MANDATORY when travelling on all forms of public transport and in and around the station.
Please be considerate of others, hidden disabilities or medical conditions may mean that not everyone can wear a face covering. There are some exemptions including babies, children under the age of 11 in England (under 5 in Scotland), people with disabilities and those with breathing difficulties. Further information on exemptions in England can be found here and in Scotland here. The sunflower lanyard can be worn by customers who may have a hidden disability and are not able to wear a face mask. Sunflower lanyards can be collected from a TPE ticket office.
  • Anyone who isn't wearing a face covering and isn't exempt could receive a fine of £200 for the first offence,
doubling each time to a maximum fine of up to £6,400.

       Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please carry anti-viral hand sanitiser gel and always wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and hot water before and after travel.
  • If you have an Advance Purchase ticket then you will be allocated a designated seat onboard the train. We are not operating a 'reservation only' approach, so customers with flexible tickets are able to board our services without a reservation. If you do not have an allocated seat reservation with your ticket, then please choose a window seat from the non-reserved seats available to allow the onboard team to make their way through the train, and to ensure you feel safe in the context of social distancing. We do not have social distancing labels on our train seats.
  • If you would like to travel in First Class, please note that we are not currently operating an on-board catering service and the number of seats in our First Class areas is limited. On our Nova trains, customers are politely requested to not occupy seats in First Class that are clearly marked for staff use only.
  • Please keep your distance where possible. Although our colleagues at stations and onboard will be there to guide you we cannot enforce the social distancing measures so please be mindful of fellow travellers and if the service you are trying to board is busy please consider taking an earlier or later train
  • Due to the social distancing in place please allow extra time to make your journey. In the unlikely event that you are unable to board the last service of the day due to social distancing requirements, please speak to a member of our team at the station. If you cannot find a member of staff please use the customer help points situated in the station for assistance. Our social media team are also available @TPEAssist
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell where possible
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your sleeve if you don’t have a tissue, when you cough or sneeze, do not use your hands. Put used tissues in a bin straight away and wash your hands for 20 seconds afterwards
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you are on one of our trains and there is no soap available, or if the bins are full, please contact a member of TPE staff on board, or via Twitter or WhatsApp, so our cleaning teams can address this.

If you have travelled abroad in the past 14 days, check the advice for travellers on the NHS website.
If you think you have come into close contact with someone who has Covid-19 or are showing symptoms you should call NHS 111.
