Paintings on the platform and pizzolo in the ticket hall
Over the last 6 months, we’ve been on a journey to find the next big things in art, broadcasting and food & drink. Our search led us to our six Future Stars and we teamed them up with an influential mentor to help them on their way to greatness.
In November 2016, each of the Future Stars showcased their talents at a special event at Huddersfield Railway Station. The showcase consisted of an art exhibition curated under the guidance of neon-guru Julia Bickerstaff, a food stall serving creations overseen by Scottish chef, Tony Singh and podcast interviews guided by BBC Radio’s Shaun Keaveny – all of which showcased the work done with their respective mentees over the year so far.
The artists presented their paintings on the platform, allowing customers to soak up the culture whilst waiting for their train. The paintings reflected journeys taken along the TPE network and were inspired by places and people they saw along the way. Whilst the artists presented their work, Jack and Steph on the broadcasting team were busy presenting their podcast – conducting interviews and stories from their fellow mentees, other mentors and customers alike.
Cooking up a storm on the other side of the station were mentor Tony Singh and pizza loving mentee Antonio. Serving up fresh pizzolo, a twist on the traditional Italian dish, their stand delighted hungry customers at Huddersfield. Never one to miss out on the action, even Felix the Huddersfield station cat made an appearance!
